Siem reaps, known for famous Angkor wat, in Cambodia and tourists in Bangkok’s cheerful city, Thailand can surely visit the ancient city by plane and road. While some like to drive on their own, some take a bus to travel from Bangkok to Siem reap.

There are two ways through to reach the city by bus– A regular bus or direct bus. The difference lies that the regular bus makes you switch after getting to the town border in Thailand to travel to another side of Cambodia. Whereas the direct bus is a straight journey from Bangkok to Siem reap.

Thailand and Cambodia immigration offices open from 7:30 am to 10 pm, so don’t reach there at night.

Direct Bus:

The direct buses depart at 7:45 am, and 9 am from Bangkok’s Mo Chit bus station and stop at Khao San Road area, Bangkok, another bus catching station. One can book their tickets online or purchase them at the ticket counter. The buses are a comfortable and cheap mode of transport to travel to Siem reap.

There are many options to take a bus ride with Giant Ibis, Travel mart, Transport co., etc. all are good reputable direct buses.

 It is a 7 to 8 hours long journey with a distance of 365.7 km nearly. As soon as the bus reaches Aranyaphrathet, Thailand border, you need to clear your Thailand immigration. By filling a form at the center near the border and getting stamped on your passport.

Then walk to the other side and straightforward Cambodia immigration process. With a visa and stamped passport, board your bus and then reach Siem reap.

Regular Bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap:

The regular bus usually takes 9-10 hours. It starts from Mo chit(North Terminal) till Aranyaprathet Thailand bus stop. From where you find another bus at Cambodia’s border and reach the city. There are a lot of regular buses from 3 am to 12 pm. Purchase your ticket online or at the bus counter till the Aranyaphrathet bus stop costs around 6 USD approx, then take a tuk-tuk available for 4 USD or a motorcycle for 2 USD to the Rong Kahlua border market to clear your immigration process at the border gates.

Now walk towards the Cambodian border, clear your immigration, get your passport stamp. Get a visa if you need in case. Take a free shuttle taxi or bus to reach transport depot, takes 15 minutes to go there. You can take a taxi for around 35-50 USD or a Government bus for 11 USD approx to travel to Siem reap.
